Kids who leave town don't want to come back - Elise

I work for the Burns tribe as a youth services coordinator. People on the reservation, they don’t want to leave. That’s our land and our home for generations, but the kids who leave town don’t want to move back here because there are no jobs and no housing. They want to look for a brighter future.

The food bank’s Harvest Share program has come to the reservation and everybody has taken to it. Everybody marks their calendars and really appreciates the food that is donated to the tribe. My favorite part is the vegetables.

My dream is to have a community garden and a gym on the reservation to keep the kids active and out of trouble. It’s really hard living here in Burns, but I like it and I’d like to see my son come back here and work in the tribe.
