OFB receives perishable food donations including milk, meat, produce and other dairy products through its Fresh Alliance program.
OFB drivers pick up perishable food donations at local grocery stores on refrigerated trucks. Volunteers sort and inspect the food which is often available to hungry families within 24 hours.
The program began as a pilot in 2002 and is now operating successfully statewide.
Stores across the state that donate to Fresh Alliance include:
Albertsons, Fred Meyer, WalMart, Target, QFC, Whole Foods, Lamb’s Thriftway, Red Apple IGA, Rosauers, Ray’s ShopSmart and C&K Markets.
Fresh Alliance volunteers repacked nearly 1.9 million pounds of nutritious perishable food at OFB headquarters and OFB West last year.
There are about 203 stores that donate to the Fresh Alliance program statewide and about 76 stores that donate to Fresh Alliance in the Portland area.
