Grocery Outlet Donation

On Friday, June 7, Grocery Outlet, the largest “extreme-value” grocer in the U.S., made a donation of nearly 21,000 pounds of fresh apples to Oregon Food Bank to help feed the hungry in the local community.

The donation will occur at the Oregon City location at 878 Molalla Avenue, Oregon City, OR. This is Grocery Outlet’s third year participating in the Take a Bite Out of Hunger™ program, which was created by FirstFruits Marketing of Washington.

“We are committed to helping combat hunger in our community, and participating in Take a Bite Out of Hunger™ is a great way to make a difference,” said Don Murphy, director of produce and floral at Grocery Outlet. “This program provides tangible help to those in need, and we are proud to be able to donate over 20,000 pounds of fresh and healthy apples.”

For 1 in 6 Americans, hunger is a reality. Being “food insecure” or not having regular access to safe, affordable and nutritious foods affects millions of households in the U.S. In 2010 15% of all U.S. households were considered food insecure, and 33% of the members of these households were children.

“This program is one of our favorites,” remarked Jeff Schroeder, marketing director of FirstFruits of Washington. “We enjoy helping our retail partners like Grocery Outlet make these donations and have received great feedback from the food banks, which are always appreciative of receiving fresh and healthy produce.”
