Bank of America and generous customers help feed thousands of hungry Oregonians
Portland, Oregon – March 28, 2014 – The Oregon Food Bank Network announced that it received 66,366 meals this year through Bank of America’s Give a Meal campaign. An annual partnership with Feeding America and Oregon Food Bank, the campaign helps provide meals to families in need across Oregon and Clark County, Washington during the holiday season.
“Hunger is a serious and pervasive issue in our community,” said Nicole Frisch, Assistant Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at Bank of America in Oregon and southwest Washington. “At Bank of America, we know that the increased demand for hunger relief is a growing crisis. One way we responded to this need is with the Give A Meal program, which mobilized the community to join us in supporting the food bank.”
The initiative, which ran from November to January, was bolstered by the bank's commitment to a 2 for 1 match, meaning that for every $1 a customer gave during the campaign, Bank of America donated $2. That helped leverage donor dollars and bring more meals into the community.
“As Oregon slowly recovers from the Great Recession, individuals and families continue to struggle to put food on the table. This support from Bank of America and its customers is a tremendous asset in our fight against hunger,” said Susannah Morgan, CEO of Oregon Food Bank.
This is the third year that the Oregon Food Bank Network and Feeding America have partnered with Bank of America to help raise funds for local food banks across the country. Along with the match, bank employees participated in hundreds of hunger-related volunteer efforts around the country.
