Celebrating two decades as one of the world's most imaginative food charities, the Canstruction® exhibition and competition will invite Oregon’s top architecture, engineering, and construction firms to transform more than 35,000 cans of food into whimsical, wildly inventive sculptures at Pioneer Place in downtown Portland from April 22 to 28, 2013.

Ford Motor Company Fund and Oregon Food Bank announced today a grant of $100,000 as part of the Ford Focus on Child Hunger campaign. The donation is one of six grants to food banks across the Pacific Northwest intended to address the growing issue of childhood hunger in this country.
"There is nothing more heart-wrenching than a child going hungry," said Bess Wills, dealer at Gresham Ford. "We are thankful that Ford Motor Company Fund is taking steps to address this growing problem and Gresham Ford is proud to support this effort.”

Oregon Food Bank received a 2013 Innovation Award in food banking at the annual Feeding America Network Executive Directors' Forum this week in Nashville. Feeding America presents the award to the year’s most innovative programs from the 202 food banks across the nation in the Feeding America network.

Gleaners from throughout the state will gather at the State Capitol in Salem, Tuesday, March 12, to celebrate their rich history of 40 years of gleaning in Oregon. Gleaners will also ask state legislators to pass Senate Bill 430 to allow farmers and others to claim a tax deduction for food they donate to gleaners and other hunger-relief groups.

Gift to establish two dozen school-based pantries
Oregon Food Bank CEO Susannah Morgan, today announced a $150,000 gift from Zidell Companies to help fight childhood hunger.
“Childhood hunger is a huge problem in Oregon,” Morgan noted. “Oregon is among the states with the highest rate of child food insecurity. We thank Zidell Companies for this generous gift, which will support OFB’s goal of developing two dozen school-based food pantries by the end of 2015. These pantries will have the potential to reach an additional 1,250 families per month and distribute groceries for half-a-million meals per year.”

With generous support from Bank of America, more than 650 volunteers will honor Martin Luther King Jr. with a Day of Service repacking food and sorting food-drive donations at two Oregon Food Bank facilities.

At the request of Feeding America, Oregon Food Bank has sent Dee Morasco, OFB’s inventory manager, to Hauppauge, N.Y., to share her expertise with Island Harvest Food Bank as the area recovers from Hurricane Sandy.
Morasco, who lives in Amboy, Wash., has worked at Oregon Food Bank as an inventory specialist for more than a decade.
