Former Oregon Food Bank CEO Rachel Bristol is among 10 people honored as a “Champion of Change” by the White House. The honor is being given to individuals that are examples of how national service creates pathways to economic and employment opportunities.
“I am thrilled that my friend Rachel has earned this incredibly well-deserved ‘Champions of Change’ honor for her decades of service fighting the scourge of hunger in Oregon,” said Sen. Ron Wyden. “Her work beginning in the 1980s with VISTA and then her groundbreaking accomplishments with the Oregon Food Bank add up to a lifetime of making our state an even better place to be for all Oregonians.”

Oregon Food Bank is mourning the loss of board member and social justice advocate Lucinda Tate who passed away on Saturday, January 17. Lucinda served on the OFB board since 2010 and was a tireless advocate for those who are hungry and underserved.

A $39,000 grant from Hunger Is will provide food for thousands of Oregon children who don't get enough to eat. Oregon Food Bank was nominated for the grant by the managers of Safeway stores in Oregon and Clark County, Washington.

With Congress headed back to Washington next week to wrap up the 113th session, there is an important issue surrounding the fight against hunger that needs attention. Sen. Ron Wyden chairs the Senate Finance Committee and could play a critical role in this legislation which would permanently put into place tax incentives for farmers and manufacturers to donate food to nonprofits.

The 2014 Oregon Harvest Dinner broke its fundraising record as nearly 500 people helped Oregon Food Bank raise more than $600,000 to support hunger relief. Funds raised at the October 18th event will support programs and services in Oregon and Clark County, Washington.

Shared goals for emergency preparedness, zero waste and hunger relief brought together Oregon Food Bank, Waste Management and the City of Portland. A burgeoning relationship has formed between Oregon Food Bank, Waste Management and the City of Portland with the intent to address the need of emergency preparedness for the Oregon Food Bank Network.

This September, Oregon Food Bank and Metro area governments will unite to raise awareness of the thousands of Oregonians who struggle with hunger. It’s part of a nationwide campaign in recognition of Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month – a month-long campaign to help end hunger in our community.City and county governments will issue proclamations and community leaders and staff will volunteer at food repack events.

Oregon Food Bank is alerting recipients of food through the Oregon Food Bank Network and associated partner agencies, pantries and community kitchens of a voluntary recall of almond butter and peanut butter due to a potential Salmonella contamination.
