On Monday, January 20, in answer to Dr. King’s famous call to action – "Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’" – 680 volunteers from Bank of America, PacifiCorp, Hands on Greater Portland in partnership with United Way , as well as individuals and families will process over 100,000 pounds of food – equivalent to more than 83,000 meals, and as much as the two facilities process in a regular work week.

On Thursday, December 5, Portland Business Journal recognized Oregon’s Most Admired Companies at a luncheon held at the Hilton in downtown Portland. At the event, Oregon Food Bank was named No. 4 Most Admired Company in the non-profit category.

Stimulus funding that ended November 1 harms nearly 40,000 veterans in Oregon receiving assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
As Veteran’s Day approaches, Oregon Food Bank is alarmed by the impact that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) cuts will have on the well-being of the more than 37,000 veterans in Oregon that receive SNAP benefits. Congress passed stimulus funding that included an increase in SNAP benefits (formerly known as food stamps) that ended on November 1. As a result, all recipients – including hundreds of thousands of veterans nationwide – are experiencing an unprecedented cut in benefits.

Festival fans donate record-breaking $1.3 million to fight hunger
Perfect festival weather, a high-powered lineup, committed sponsors, enthusiastic volunteers and generous blues fans helped make the 2013 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival a sensational success.
The Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Federal Credit Union, raised a record-breaking $1,315,000 through donations at the gate as well as purchases of special passes and DME blues cruise tickets, exceeding the festival’s $1 million goal.

House Agriculture Committee’s approximate $21 billion cut to SNAP will threaten children and families who are struggling with hunger.
