You made Blues Fest a success and helped us surpass our goal!
The 29th annual Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Credit Union raised $1,043,571 for Oregon Food Bank over the 4-day event.
From the gates opening on July 1 to the culmination of the festival on the 4th of July with fireworks, the event was one of the best yet! Weather was perfect, the music was hot and the support of attendees was amazing.
With your help, along with our generous sponsors, we will provide nutritious food to 1 in 5 of our neighbors facing hunger during the summer months and beyond.

Just under where she was sleeping, Miriam could feel the concrete. She did have some cushions, rescued from the apartment she’d just lost, to put down on the floor of her friend’s garage, but in the night she could feel the cold hardness just inches beneath her.
And she knew that around here, she might actually count herself lucky.

People struggling with hunger now have more healthy food choices due to the expansion of Oregon Food Bank’s Fresh Alliance program. Safeway joined the program in July 2015, integrating more than 100 stores over the course of 11 months. The Fresh Alliance program is designed to divert safe, edible grocery items (that might otherwise be composted or discarded) to food pantries.

A new partnership between Oregon Food Bank, Oregon’s Department of Human Services and Portland Community College is helping people affected by recent SNAP cuts. On January 1, 2016, a federal mandate kicked in to limit SNAP usage for 6,500 able bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs). An ABAWD is a person between the ages of 18 and 49 who has no dependents and is not disabled. Anyone classified as an ABAWD would only get SNAP benefits for three months every three years unless they met certain special work requirements.
