Austin House might seem like just the kind of person Congress had in mind when it toughened the food stamp requirements in 1996. He’s able-bodied, he’s single, he has no children and he even has a high school degree, so why can’t he just get a job?
Actually, Austin would like to know the answer to that, too.

Executive Director of Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon, Patti Whitney-Wise, retires on April 30 after founding and leading the organization for 10 years. In her time there she has taken hunger issues beyond the symptoms, focusing on root causes. Oregon Food Bank has worked closely with Whitney-Wise and Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon to advocate for statewide policies to improve the lives of individuals and families struggling with hunger.

Today, the collective voice of Oregon's nonprofit community was heard. Both houses of Congress voted to make permanent key tax incentives that promote, encourage and reward charitable giving. This historic legislation included three critical provisions that motivate small businesses to donate food, landowners to conserve land and individual citizens to make charitable donations through their retirement accounts.

December 16, CEO Susannah Morgan delivered Oregon Food Bank’s inaugural State of Hunger address, launching a new tradition for the organization.
Speaking to the theme of "Food Today, Food Tomorrow, Food for All," Morgan provided an update as to who is experiencing hunger, as well as steps that are being taken locally to eliminate hunger and its roots causes.
