    Imagine sitting down to your favorite meal. Maybe it includes a piece of juicy chicken, a helping of delicately seasoned rice and a colorful medley of roasted vegetables. Through the generosity of Oregon state employees, meals like this have been provided to thousands of hungry men, women and children for 31 years. This year, Stop Hunger is the key message for the annual Governor’s State Employees Food Drive which runs the entire month of February.

  • AdvoCare Helps Replenish Oregon Food Bank with $10,000 Donation

    In an effort to replenish the food supply at local food pantries after the holiday season, AdvoCare International, LP (AdvoCare), a premier health and wellness company, today announced a contribution of $10,000 to Oregon Food Bank. For the third year in a row, the Oregon Food Bank network distributed more than 1 million emergency food boxes to those in need.

    Locally, BofA employees engage to help with hunger relief. They donate their time (over 1,100 volunteer hours in FY 2013), their financial resources through company sponsorship and employee giving as well as through food drives at branch locations.

  • Aequitas Capital Donates 75 Tons of Food to Oregon Food Bank

    A month-long corporate challenge has resulted in about 75 tons of food for Oregon Food Bank (OFB) from the rapidly growing financial services firm Aequitas Capital.

    The 130-person Lake Oswego-based firm, which specializes in alternative investments such as corporate private credit, formed teams around company executives for a four-week campaign that featured incentives, special challenges and engaging neighbor businesses.

    In all, cash and food donations equated to about three fully loaded semi-trucks, enough for OFB and its partners to provide 150,000 meals. Additionally, the Aequitas Capital staff spent approximately 64 hours volunteering at OFB and OFB West.

    Winter weather: More than an inconvenience for low-income families

    This fall, low income families were dealt a double blow. First, Thanksgiving fell during the last week of the month, the week when SNAP benefits were running out due to cuts to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

    Then it was December, ushering in all of the dreads that low-income parents feel with Christmas approaching: trying to figure out how you will feed the kids during Christmas break; signing up for a Christmas food box & gifts for the kids; not knowing if an appropriate gift will be donated for your child; knowing there will barely be enough food for the holiday to seem like a celebration; finding where the free trees will be given out. Or maybe, just maybe, you can squeeze enough out of your paycheck for one special gift for each kid. Then the winter storms hit early and all plans go out the window…
