Jerry Tippens Advocacy Award - Commissioner Dan Saltzman
Commissioner Dan Saltzman has gone above and beyond to help Portland families put enough food on their tables. In 2013, he proposed adding hunger as a critical issue in the Portland Children’s Levy. He successfully campaigned for the inclusion and as a result, more than $2.6 million will be invested in anti-hunger programs in Portland over the next three years. In addition, Commissioner Saltzman has raised awareness among his colleagues by spearheading two food repack shifts in the last year for City of Portland employees. His leadership and advocacy for Portland families experiencing food insecurity make him a true anti-hunger hero.

Jackie Fearing Volunteer Award – Jeri & Tricia Dobbs
For 12 years, Jeri and Tricia Dobbs have inventoried, stocked and packed bins of equipment and supplies for our Nutrition Education Program’s off-site classes. They have given hundreds of hours to making sure course participants and volunteer educators have everything needed. Additionally, Jeri and Tricia helped set-up the Kaiser Permanente Teaching Kitchen at Oregon Food Bank’s Beaverton location. Their knowledge of the Nutrition Education Program was useful in helping create a kitchen environment that best supports class participants, Master Gardeners and volunteers using the space.

Ford Motor Company Fund
It is said that Henry Ford never forgot the common man. The Ford Motor Company Fund honors this legacy by building strong communities through support for basic needs to our neighbors in need. In just two years, the Ford Motor Company Fund has provided significant funding and systematically worked to engage every single Ford dealership in the Pacific Northwest to actively fight childhood hunger in the local community. They plan to unleash the same horsepower to fight the root causes of hunger. We appreciate their extraordinary commitment and exceptional engagement.

Food Donor of the Year
– Ron LeFore Family Farms
Members of the LeFore family have worked the soil for generations. It all began when two brothers left their fruit stands in the Ukraine to try farming in America. For many years, Ron LeFore Family Farms have quietly donated to food banks throughout the Feeding America network. They produce and pack some of the Northwest’s finest apples. Within their commercial packing lines there is a “food bank” category. This high quality product will go to families in need throughout the Pacific Northwest. In spite of a less than average harvest in 2013, Ron LeFore Family Farms donated 200,000 pounds of apples.

Thank you, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon for engaging in hunger relief by donating food, time and money to our collective community effort. Regence employees provided 1,355 meals through a food drive and volunteered a total of 359 hours repacking food. In addition, Regence and their employees made substantial financial contributions to Oregon Food Bank. These elements alone established a position in the coveted Corporate Donor of the Month program, however, there is a deeper thread that entwines Regence and Oregon Food Bank that bears mention.
