Community Food Security

We envision communities across Oregon and southwest Washington where citizens are empowered and actively engaged to attain personal and community food security. We use three primary tactics to achieve this vision: community foods organizing following the FEAST model, community food assessment and implementation through the placement of RARE AmeriCorps participants and food systems networking. This approach has proven successful in creating positive change through community-based food system leadership, building of shared vision and action plans and effective plan implementation.

FEAST is a community organizing process that allows participants to engage in an informed and facilitated discussion about food, education and agriculture in their community and begin to work toward solutions together to help build a healthier, more equitable and more resilient local food system.
