Community food security work attempts to address inequities in our society and environment that are caused by an unjust, unsustainable food system by building on untapped resources and opportunities within each community.
Food secure communities are places where residents can obtain a safe, culturally acceptable, nutritionally adequate diet through a sustainable food system that maximizes community self reliance and social justice.
Community food security and our mission
Oregon Food Bank's mission is to eliminate hunger and its root causes. Helping communities become more food secure addresses the root causes of hunger and goes hand-in-hand with our work to help people living with low incomes meet their short-term food needs. We work to build community food security through
