OFB - Metro Services

Metro Services, the regional food bank serving Clackamas and Multnomah counties, operates out of OFB's northeast Portland facility. Our mission is to provide consistent and supportive agency relations by minimizing barriers to accessing food, ensuring safe food handling, advocating for agency and client needs and providing education and outreach. We are one of four regional food banks directly operated by OFB.

  • Metro Services distributes more than 1-million pounds of food per month to more than 200 metro-area hunger-relief agencies and programs.
  • We provide agencies with technical support, training and grant funds to ensure stability and build capacity.
  • We promote peer-to-peer learning to share best practices and build a stronger web of support for people in need.
  • We connect agencies to resources for food, funds and volunteer support.

The challenge

The recent economic recession has hit the Portland metro area hard. Rising unemployment has caused many indiviuals and families to seek emergency food assistance for the first time. To meet the growing needs of a diverse population, Metro Services supports a variety of alternative distribution models, education programs and outreach efforts in addition to providing emergency food.
