Oregon Food Bank's education programs address the root causes of hunger by teaching skills to promote self-sufficiency for people living with low incomes.
Host a Nutrition Education class series
Our six-week, hands-on, cooking and nutrition education classes are offered in partnership with local organizations serving community members with low incomes. We are one of 25 cities around the country to partner with Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters™ program to teach valuable self-sufficiency skills to groups of kids, teens, young parents, adults, families or child care professionals.
Cooking Matters™ is nationally sponsored by the ConAgra Foods® Foundation and Walmart.
Classes are scheduled in advance, in partnership with organizations that recruit participants. Classes can be held at OFB's northeast Portland facility, at OFB West in Beaverton or at off-site organizations with suitable kitchen facilities.

Host a Seed to Supper gardening workshop
Oregon Food Bank and OSU Extension's five-week Seed to Supper basic gardening workshop series is offered in partnership with local organizations serving adults living on low incomes. Seed to Supper teaches beginning gardeners to grow a portion of their own food on a limited budget, with topics ranging from garden planning to planting to harvesting.
Classes are scheduled in advance, in partnership with organizations that recruit participants. Classes can be held at OFB's northeast Portland facility, at OFB West in Beaverton or at off-site organizations with suitable classroom facilities. On-site gardens are helpful, but not necessary.
Classes are offered in winter and spring only; we are now accepting applications for the winter/spring 2014 season.
NOTE: Single-session classes such as container gardening may not be available this season.
