Bringing your class to volunteer with Oregon Food Bank is an excellent way to teach your students about service and hunger in Oregon. Volunteering can help build compassion, self-esteem, teamwork and problem solving skills.
Student volunteers work together to repackage bulk food donations, from apples, to oats, to beans, for distribution to hunger-relief agencies. While at Oregon Food Bank, your class will also take a tour of our food warehouse and learn about hunger in Oregon.
Scheduling
- Registration began on Monday, August 13, 2012, on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Because spaces for school groups are limited, it is best to schedule volunteer dates for the entire school year in August or September.
- In an effort to accomodate as many school groups as possible, each individual classroom is limited to four shifts a year, and each school is limited to one shift per month.
- To schedule, fill out the school group volunteer application.
- Fill out the volunteer roster and e-mail it to volunteer@oregonfoodbank.org at least one week before your field trip.
- Prepare your students. See curriculum ideas and more on our resources for teachers page.
