Food Repack

Step three: Learn more and sign up.

You might be surprised to learn that about 1,500 volunteers visit Oregon Food Bank each week! Food repack volunteers help with the most fundamental part of our mission – getting food to the people who need it most. Many donations need sorting, repacking, labeling or additional processing before they are ready to be sent to hunger-relief agencies. That's where you come in! Help us prepare food to be distributed through our network to hungry families.

We have four different types of food repack opportunities. Read below for descriptions and click the buttons in the top right-hand corner to sign up.

Volunteer Action Center
Repack and label bulk dry food in a lively, active environment! You'll be repacking foods like rice, pasta, apples or potatoes into family-sized packages. Shifts range in size from 10 to 110 individuals. Ages 6 and up. Adults must accompany volunteers under 16.

Food Recovery (Portland location only)
Join us for a fast-paced food sorting adventure! Sort canned and boxed food donations into categories to be sent to food pantries and meal sites. Ages 16 and up. Volunteers must be able to repeatedly lift 25 pounds and make quick decisions.

Fresh Alliance
Inspect, sort and repack all things refrigerated! You’ll see fresh fruits and veggies, yogurt, meat, sandwiches and other nutritious foods that are highly valued by partner agencies and clients. Fresh Alliance volunteers work in a room kept at 50 degrees. Ages 14 and up. Volunteers must be able to comfortably lift 25 pounds.

Perishables Repack Room
OFB gets bulk donations of nutritious frozen food that needs to be repacked into family-sized portions. To keep your hands warm and cozy, we provide liners for your food-safe gloves. Volunteers work in a room kept at 50 degrees. Ages 16 and up in Portland and 6 and up in Beaverton. Adults must accompany volunteers under 16.
