The story of soup
Pacific Foods of Oregon Inc. donates nutritious
potato, carrot and tomato soups, and juices and teas to Oregon
Food Bank— more than one-and a-half-million pounds in the last
three years alone.
How does the food get to people who are hungry?
Pacific Food's warehouse workers load the
soups onto an Oregon Food Bank truck. Oregon Food Bank drivers
transport the soups and unload them at OFB's warehouse.
Volunteers working in OFB's Volunteer Action
Center label the soups and pack them in boxes. Individuals and
groups from schools, businesses, churches and community organizations
volunteered more than 65,481 hours at Oregon Food Bank last year.
Next, Oregon Food Bank distributes Pacific Foods
soups through a statewide network of 20 regional food banks that
in turn, serve 870 local hunger-relief agencies in Oregon and
Clark County, Wash.
Lastly, donated food is received by people who are
hungry— an average of 185,000 people per month. Families, children,
the working poor, the elderly and disabled all benefit from food
industry donors such as Pacific Foods and its president, Chuck
Eggert.
Chuck Eggert also served on OFB's Board of Directors
for two years and contributed to OFB's capital campaign. He and
his wife volunteer weekly to distribute food from their church
pantry to people who are hungry. He has dedicated a portion of
his land to growing carrots for Oregon Food Bank. And he consistently
supports OFB with donations of staff time, food, processing and
packaging.
