The Oregon Food Bank Network announced that it received 66,366 meals this year through Bank of America’s Give a Meal campaign. An annual partnership with Feeding America and Oregon Food Bank, the campaign helps provide meals to families in need across Oregon and Clark County, Washington during the holiday season.

After a two year absence, Oregon farmers and producers will again be able to claim a tax credit for food donations to hunger relief groups around the state. Today the Oregon House of Representatives unanimously endorsed SB 1541, which comes on the heels of a unanimous vote by the Senate on February 14. Governor Kitzhaber is expected to sign the bill.

Headlining artists Gregg Allman, Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, Maceo Parker, Lee Fields & the Expressions and John Nemeth & The Bo-Keys join more than 100 blues acts on four stages over the July 4th weekend event to benefit Oregon Food Bank's mission of fighting hunger and its root causes.

As preparation for spring planting begins, the Oregon Senate has unanimously approved legislation that would give farmers a tax credit for donations to hunger relief organizations. SB 1541 now goes to the House.

A congressional farm bill conference committee has passed a bill that includes a draconian $8.6-billion cut to federal food assistance. The cut to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) comes on the heels of an $11-billion reduction in the program that went into effect on November 1, 2013.

On Monday, January 20, in answer to Dr. King’s famous call to action – "Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’" – 680 volunteers from Bank of America, PacifiCorp, Hands on Greater Portland in partnership with United Way , as well as individuals and families will process over 100,000 pounds of food – equivalent to more than 83,000 meals, and as much as the two facilities process in a regular work week.

On Thursday, December 5, Portland Business Journal recognized Oregon’s Most Admired Companies at a luncheon held at the Hilton in downtown Portland. At the event, Oregon Food Bank was named No. 4 Most Admired Company in the non-profit category.

Stimulus funding that ended November 1 harms nearly 40,000 veterans in Oregon receiving assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
As Veteran’s Day approaches, Oregon Food Bank is alarmed by the impact that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) cuts will have on the well-being of the more than 37,000 veterans in Oregon that receive SNAP benefits. Congress passed stimulus funding that included an increase in SNAP benefits (formerly known as food stamps) that ended on November 1. As a result, all recipients – including hundreds of thousands of veterans nationwide – are experiencing an unprecedented cut in benefits.
