Oregon Food Bank is asking for the community’s support on May 14 as we join letter carriers for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers, Stamp Out Hunger is the largest single-day food drive in Oregon.

Oregon Food Bank announces the hiring of a development director and election of three members to its Board of Directors.
Oregon Food Bank hired Darrell Yuen as Director of Development, Marketing and Communications. In addition to managing a 30-member team Yuen will provide vision, outline strategy and implement actions to grow financial resources, community engagement and brand awareness.
Joining the Board of Directors this month are Ron Brake, Owner/President of Marketing Concepts, Northwest and Sarah Opfer, Senior Manager at KPMG. Katie Lauderdale, SUN Site Manager at Centennial High School joins Oregon Food Bank’s Board as an Advisory Representative.

For more than 20 years, people have come together on the third Monday of January for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Dr. King said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’” The community is invited to take on the challenge and join with others at Oregon Food Bank on Monday, January 18, 2016.

Oregon Food Bank’s new grocery rescue partnership with Safeway is increasing the amount of healthy food available to people struggling to make ends meet. By early 2016, 107 Safeway stores in Oregon and Clark County, Washington will be part of the Fresh Alliance program, which captures and diverts fresh food to hungry people across the state.

Oregon Food Bank today announced $50,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation to fund retail infrastructure that will ultimately help secure and distribute more nutritious food for families in need. The grant will go towards the purchase of a 24-foot refrigerated box truck allowing for proper handling of perishable products.

Former Oregon Food Bank CEO Rachel Bristol is among 10 people honored as a “Champion of Change” by the White House. The honor is being given to individuals that are examples of how national service creates pathways to economic and employment opportunities.
“I am thrilled that my friend Rachel has earned this incredibly well-deserved ‘Champions of Change’ honor for her decades of service fighting the scourge of hunger in Oregon,” said Sen. Ron Wyden. “Her work beginning in the 1980s with VISTA and then her groundbreaking accomplishments with the Oregon Food Bank add up to a lifetime of making our state an even better place to be for all Oregonians.”
