Cans Film Festival to benefit the Oregon Food Bank Network
See a film for just three cans of food and help fight hunger at the 26th annual Cans Film Festival, Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006.
Donate three or more cans or boxes of nonperishable food at any Regal Cinemas in Oregon and Clark County, Wash., and receive free admission to a movie and a free small popcorn. The offer is good for all shows except for The Guardian.
Cans Film Festival takes place at 44 Regal Cinemas locations nationwide; 15 are located in the Portland metro area.
Moviegoers donated more than 90,000 pounds of food to the Oregon Food Bank Network during Cans Film Festival last year. That’s equivalent to 69,000 meals for people who are hungry.
Volunteers will be on hand to accept food donations at participating theaters. All food donations directly benefit the Oregon Food Bank Network in the communities where the food was collected.
“We thank Regal Cinemas for giving folks a great deal on a movie while helping to fight hunger,” said Rachel Bristol, executive director of Oregon Food Bank. “In an average month, an estimated 194,000 people eat meals from emergency food boxes. The food that moviegoers donate during Cans Film Festival helps the regional food banks of the OFB Network fight hunger in their local communities.”
“Regal is proud to continue the tradition of the Cans Film Festival,” said Dick Westerling, Regal Entertainment Group’s senior vice president of marketing and advertising. “Cans Film Festival is a great example of Regal Cinemas and our customers joining forces to make a positive impact on the quality of life in the communities where we live and operate.”
Cans Film Festival is sponsored by Regal Cinemas, Western Family, KINK FM 102, 101 KUFO, 98.7 KUPL, AM 970, Mix 107.5 and K-HITS 106.7 and OregonLive.com.
Oregon Food Bank is a nonprofit, charitable organization. It is the hub of a statewide network of 894 hunger-relief agencies serving Oregon and Clark County, Wash. Oregon Food Bank recovers food from farmers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, individuals and government sources. It then distributes that food to 20 regional food banks across Oregon. Sixteen are independent charitable organizations. OFB directly operates the four regional food banks serving the Portland metro area (Clackamas, Clark, Multnomah and Washington counties), southeast Oregon (Harney and Malheur counties) and Tillamook County. Those four centers distribute food weekly to more than 350 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs helping low-income individuals.
