Gardening in the Pacific Northwest: A workshop series for beginners
Wednesdays, March 5 through April 2, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Classes help beginning gardeners plan, plant and care for a vegetable garden. OFB encourages participants to attend the whole series, but each workshop is also designed to stand alone. To sign up, call 503-282-0555, Ext. 268.
- Creating healthy garden soil: March 5, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Learn how crop rotation, composting, cover crops and organic fertilizers can help maintain soil fertility.
- Planting: March 12, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Learn direct seeding, transplanting and other common propagation methods that will help you plant a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs.
- Organic pest management: March 19, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Learn natural ways to control pests in your garden.
- Garden maintenance: March 26, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Learn strategies for ongoing garden maintenance to ensure the success of your harvest.
- Garden planning: April 2 , 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Create a garden plan that will guide your planting and harvesting throughout spring, summer and fall.
Basic Gardening Workshop
Wednesday April 16, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Learn to grow vegetables in your own yard. This workshop will cover when and how to plant vegetables that will flourish in the Pacific Northwest. Topics include planning a garden, bed preparation, successful garden maintenance strategies and water conservation tips.
Container Gardening Workshop
Wednesday, April 30 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Whether you live in an apartment or want to grow food on your deck, stoop or patio, you'll learn to establish a bountiful garden in small spaces. This workshop will cover the basics of planting and maintaining a container garden. Learn which varieties are best for containers, what size containers to use and where to locate your containers for healthy plants. Cooking from the Garden
Cooking from the garden workshops begin in August. The workshop schedule will be posted in Mid-June.
