What is Gleaning?

Webster's Dictionary
“The gathering of grain or produce left after harvest.”

The Oregon Hunger Prevention Act of 1988
“To collect unharvested crops from the field of farmers or to obtain agricultural products from farmers, processors or retailers, in order to distribute the products to needy individuals, including unemployed and low-income individuals. The term includes only those situations in which agricultural products and access to facilities are made without charge.”

The Oregon Farmer Tax Credit
“The harvesting of an agricultural crop or a portion of an agricultural crop grown primarily to be sold for cash that is donated by the grower of the crop to a gleaning cooperative at such a time that the crop is still usable as food for human beings...”
