Two major corporations help fight hunger with generous contributions to Oregon Food Bank

June 12, 2014
Portland, Oregon – June 12, 2014 – This year more children will have healthy food and Oregon Food Bank will be better able to serve those in need thanks to generous donations from the Ford Motor Company Fund and Fred Meyer.

For the second year, Ford Motor Company Fund selected Oregon Food Bank to receive a $100,000 grant as part of the Ford Focus on Child Hunger campaign. The funds will go toward the purchase of child-focused emergency food, including single-serve milk, juice, applesauce and oats. These foods are especially needed during the summer months when kids are out of school and lose access to free and reduced-price meals.

In addition, Fred Meyer customers and employees went above and beyond during the 2013 holiday season to help Oregon Food Bank. Coin donation boxes at Fred Meyer checkout lanes and contributions through the Fred Meyer Employee Giving Campaign resulted in over $136,000 to support the mission.

“These two generous gifts will go a long way to help those in need,” said Susannah Morgan, CEO of Oregon Food Bank. “We appreciate the commitment to ending childhood hunger by the Ford Motor Company Fund and are amazed by the kindheartedness and generosity of Fred Meyer customers and employees.”
