    New Seasons Market (NSM) is OFB’s December Corporate Donor of the Month! Thank you NSM for celebrating our community.

    NSM customers are a generous bunch of shoppers. Through the “passive” register fund drives, NSM stores donated funds which allowed OFB to purchase and distribute over 63,000 meals.

    Jerry Tippens Advocacy Award - Commissioner Dan Saltzman

    Commissioner Dan Saltzman has gone above and beyond to help Portland families put enough food on their tables. In 2013, he proposed adding hunger as a critical issue in the Portland Children’s Levy. He successfully campaigned for the inclusion and as a result, more than $2.6 million will be invested in anti-hunger programs in Portland over the next three years. In addition, Commissioner Saltzman has raised awareness among his colleagues by spearheading two food repack shifts in the last year for City of Portland employees. His leadership and advocacy for Portland families experiencing food insecurity make him a true anti-hunger hero.

    Partnership is about synergistic, collaborative efforts. Fred Meyer Stores engages everyone. From their leadership team and their employees to their vendors and customers, they help the community focus on alleviating hunger in Oregon and Clark County, Washington. Their thoughtful and strategic leadership encourages innovation and teamwork throughout the OFB Network and their stores. Fred Meyer is willing to try new methods to end hunger, even if the results are not immediate.

  • 2014 Hunger Hero: Jackie Fearing Volunteer Award

    Jackie Fearing Volunteer Award Jeri & Tricia Dobbs

    For 12 years, Jeri and Tricia Dobbs have inventoried, stocked and packed bins of equipment and supplies for our Nutrition Education Program’s off-site classes. They have given hundreds of hours to making sure course participants and volunteer educators have everything needed. Additionally, Jeri and Tricia helped set-up the Kaiser Permanente Teaching Kitchen at Oregon Food Bank’s Beaverton location. Their knowledge of the Nutrition Education Program was useful in helping create a kitchen environment that best supports class participants, Master Gardeners and volunteers using the space.

  • Today is National Call-In Day

    Now that the election is over, Congress will return to Washington today to finish its remaining business. We expect that extending several expiring tax provisions will be a high priority for Congress and it’s our goal to ensure that the food donation tax deduction is included.

    Please join Feeding America’s call-in day to show Congress that you support a tax deduction for farmers who donate food to us.

    It is said that Henry Ford never forgot the common man. The Ford Motor Company Fund honors this legacy by building strong communities through support for basic needs to our neighbors in need. In just two years, the Ford Motor Company Fund has provided significant funding and systematically worked to engage every single Ford dealership in the Pacific Northwest to actively fight childhood hunger in the local community. They plan to unleash the same horsepower to fight the root causes of hunger. We appreciate their extraordinary commitment and exceptional engagement.

    Food Donor of the Year Ron LeFore Family Farms

    Members of the LeFore family have worked the soil for generations. It all began when two brothers left their fruit stands in the Ukraine to try farming in America. For many years, Ron LeFore Family Farms have quietly donated to food banks throughout the Feeding America network. They produce and pack some of the Northwest’s finest apples. Within their commercial packing lines there is a “food bank” category. This high quality product will go to families in need throughout the Pacific Northwest. In spite of a less than average harvest in 2013, Ron LeFore Family Farms donated 200,000 pounds of apples.

  • Record-breaking evening at Oregon Harvest Dinner

    The 2014 Oregon Harvest Dinner broke its fundraising record as nearly 500 people helped Oregon Food Bank raise more than $600,000 to support hunger relief. Funds raised at the October 18th event will support programs and services in Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
