Walk to Feed the Hungry
October 19, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm| Free
For the third time, Buddhist Global Relief’s “Walk to Feed the Hungry” is coming to Portland, and Friends of the Dhamma is delighted to again host the event. Join us for this festive afternoon! Walking isn’t necessary—you can lend your support in lots of ways.
Buddhist Global Relief (chaired by Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi) sponsors vital projects that provide food aid to people afflicted by malnutrition and starvation. To raise awareness and funds, Buddhist Global Relief holds annual “Walks to Feed the Hungry” throughout the US. These Walks bring diverse folks together to express compassion-in-action with a shared purpose: to help people around the world escape chronic hunger. It is indeed uplifting to surround ourselves with friends united in such a beautiful intention!
Once again this year, we’re partnering with Oregon Food Bank, and 10% of our donations will go to supporting their work to alleviate hunger in Portland and elsewhere. (On the day of the Walk we’ll be able to donate non-parishable food in a large barrel Oregon Food Bank will provide.)
The Walk will go from PFoD to SE Hawthorne & Cesar Chavez Blvd. and back again (two miles). Before we start, spiritual leaders from different traditions will offer reflections on compassion and generosity, including Pacific Hermitage Abbot Ajahn Sudanto and PFoD Spiritual Director Sakula-Mary Reinard.
