Last night in his State of the Union address, President Obama again failed to talk about the issue that holds back the productivity, health, and success of 49 million Americans, including 16 million children—hunger and food insecurity.
"It is ironic, that in 2015, the year by which candidate Barack Obama pledged to end childhood hunger, the president again made no mention of hungry Americans or support for the critical federal nutrition programs that help them have enough to eat." said Oregon Food Bank public policy advocate Jeff Kleen.
MLK Day of Service at Oregon Food Bank, sponsored by Bank of America, was a record-breaking volunteer day!
On January 19, 680 people volunteered their day off to help repack nearly 118,000 pounds of food at both Portland and Beaverton locations. Our previous record was in 2013 with 616 volunteers.
