President’s budget cuts would have drastic impact

May 23, 2017 – The president’s budget proposal released today includes devastating cuts to programs that help children, seniors, working people and all those who are struggling to meet their basic needs. These cuts would result in increased hunger, homelessness and illness due to lack of affordable health care.

Proposed cuts include (over 10 years):

  • SNAP/food stamps – $193 billion (25 percent)
  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) — $22 billion
  • Health care — $1.25 trillion from repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act; at least $610 billion in additional Medicaid cuts for a total of more than $1.85 trillion.

Oregon Food Bank urges the Congress to strongly oppose immoral and irresponsible budget cuts such as these that would lead to unnecessary human suffering.
