It’s Hunger Action Day! Take action to end hunger.

September 14, 2017 – Today, September 14 is Hunger Action Day®, a day for you to take steps to end hunger in your community. It’s easy, it doesn’t cost much and it will only take a little bit of your time.

Every month, 270,000 people in Oregon and Clark County, Washington eat food they received from a pantry. Many may see that number as insurmountable, but it isn’t. Together, we can help everyone reach their full potential.

“This is the first time as an adult with children that I have needed support of any kind. We missed a lot of meals before I learned of this resource. I cried the first time I saw the food I received. My kids were so excited.”

“I live in subsidized housing and am on disability. I rely on the local food bank to have food for the last two weeks of the month.”

“My boyfriend and I are here because we are two broke college students, and our money is dwindling. It came down to paying for food or making the car payment. This food bank saved us from having to make that hard choice (and we would have chosen the car).”

Take action today:

Donate. In addition to purchasing food, your donations help fund programs that build skills and resiliency in hundreds of people. Feeding people will always be the core of what we do, but through cooking, nutrition and gardening classes, your community will become more sustainable and connected.

Volunteer. Two to three hours of your time goes a long way to putting food on the tables of thousands of our neighbors. Oregon Food Bank operates many volunteer shifts throughout the week and there is sure to be one that fits your schedule. It’s easy to sign up through our website. Looking for a different opportunity? We have those too! From office tasks to special events, you can lend a hand in many ways.

Advocate. Your lawmakers need to hear from you about the issues that matter most. We help make it easy. Sign up for the Action Alert list and you will be kept in the loop about upcoming legislation that affects people struggling with hunger. There is also a quick form for you to fill in and send out if you want your representative to know how you feel.

Become a hunger fighting champion in your office, classroom or home. Stay motivated and informed by following Oregon Food Bank on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Together, we can end hunger in Oregon!
