Adelante Mujeres: No Child Should Go Without Food
Adelante Mujeres: No Child Should Go Without Food
By Bridget Cooke, Adelante Mujeres
As Co-Founder and Executive Director of Adelante Mujeres, I believe in Food for All Oregonians (SB 611) because I see every day how our loved ones struggle to meet their basic needs. Our communities shouldn't have to struggle like this just to put food on the table.
Adelante Mujeres provides holistic education and empowerment opportunities for marginalized Latinas and families, helping ensure full participation and leadership in our communities. As members of the Food for All Oregonians Steering Committee, we’re working with legislators, organizations, and individuals across the state to pass policies that ensure all kids have the food they need to thrive.
Through our Produce Prescription (Rx) Program, we witness firsthand how access to fresh produce leads to significant health improvements for families with diet-related chronic illnesses. Last year, 50 families — 226 individuals — used the Produce Prescription Program to nourish themselves and their families.
SB 611 would ensure that all kids in Oregon (ages 0-6), regardless of immigration status, can access the food they need to stay healthy. Ensuring equitable access to food is essential to the well-being of our communities. Hundreds of thousands of us believe in Food for All Oregonians — and together, we have the power to make this dream a reality.
Let’s make sure no child in Washington County, or anywhere in Oregon, goes without the food they need to learn, grow, and thrive. Join me in urging our lawmakers to support a healthy, equitable future for our communities by passing SB 611.
Please take a moment today to tell lawmakers: Food for All Oregonians must be part of the state budget.
