A New Future for Food Security in The Gorge

Columbia Gorge Food Bank — currently a branch and transitional* program of Oregon Food Bank, serving Hood River, Wasco and Sherman counties — has come a long way since its founding in 2015. From operating out of the back of a truck, then to a small, leased warehouse, Columbia Gorge Food Bank is now thriving. Since our May grand opening, operations have commenced in our beautiful, permanent home located at 3525 Crates Way in The Dalles.

“Our new space allows us to tap into the agricultural abundance our region is known for, as we continue building relationships with local growers and producers to provide more fresh food to our local partners,” states Breen Goodwin, Transitional Executive Director of Columbia Gorge Food Bank.

This abundance will echo across the state as Columbia Gorge Food Bank works toward becoming an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and a hub for the Columbia River Gorge region. Welcoming products from the bountiful landscape and seizing other donation opportunities from those moving through Interstate 84, we will continue to fight hunger and its root causes.

We can only do this work together. So we invite you to continue supporting our efforts to end hunger in the Gorge and beyond. Invest in our community today!

*Columbia Gorge Food Bank is a “transitional” program of Oregon Food Bank. In 2015, Oregon Food Bank stepped in to stabilize regional food banking functions for Sherman, Wasco and Hood River counties, with the intention of transitioning ownership back to the community. With substantial investment from Oregon Food Bank, we are now in a fully functional facility and on our multi-year journey to independence, “transitioning” from a rural branch of Oregon Food Bank to an independent Regional Food Bank and 501c3 nonprofit.
