Bound Together: A Community Book Club to End Hunger

Join Oregon Food Bank’s community book club focused on food justice, hunger and collective action.

Bound Together is Oregon Food Bank’s new community book club, creating space to read, reflect and connect together. Through shared stories and conversations, we’re building a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our communities and finding ways to take action alongside one another.

How the Bound Together book club works

We’ll provide everything you need to get started:

  • Recommended readings that will inspire thoughtful conversation about the root causes of hunger in our communities

  • A discussion guide designed to help you engage more deeply with the material

  • An Action Kit, with tools and ideas for turning what you’re learning into meaningful action

The discussion guide looks closely at each reading and offers ways to explore the ideas, ask meaningful questions and build confidence talking about these topics — both within your book club and beyond.

The Action Kit builds on those conversations, offering accessible ways to share what you’re learning, invite others to be part of the impact and help raise support.

Participate in your way

Read on your own, bring a selection to your existing book club, or gather a few friends, classmates, colleagues or community members to start something new.

We provide discussion guides to support reflection and conversation — designed for readers of all levels and centered on the hope and collective action within each work.

Start with these suggested readings:

Each offers a different perspective on the root causes of hunger. Whether you’re a fiction reader, a young person or an activist, you and your community can read one or all — and come together for reflection, conversation, and action.

Reading something else? Have a recommendation? We’re working to include translated options whenever possible and welcome suggestions to help us build a more accessible and diverse library. Reach out and let us know. Whether you’re new to these conversations or have been having them for years, you are welcome here.

Why this book club matters for ending hunger

Food is a human right. Our freedom, health and ability to thrive depend on access to nourishing food. But food alone will not solve hunger. To end hunger for good, we must dismantle the systems that perpetuate it. By spreading the word and inviting our people into the movement to end hunger, we can reach more people and make lasting change.

Sometimes these topics can feel complex or difficult to talk about. Bound Together is designed to help make those conversations more accessible — offering tools and a supportive starting point.

As you learn and reflect, you’ll also have the opportunity to share what you’re discovering with others and take action in ways that feel meaningful to you.
