June 2025 Community Cultivator: Safeway Albertsons

Oregon Food Bank proudly recognizes Safeway Albertsons as our Community Cultivator for June 2025.

A key ingredient of Safeway Albertsons Companies’ business is supporting hunger relief. Earlier this year, the company announced a goal of enabling 1.5 billion meals by 2030 through surplus food donations from its stores and funds raised by the Albertsons Companies Foundation. The Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors program will also invest $10 million each year to help end hunger.

Safeway Albertsons’ commitment to making sure all our neighbors can access nourishing food is clear throughout the Oregon Food Bank Network. This support shows up in many ways — from food donations through the Fresh Alliance program, to Nourishing Neighbors grants that fund Double Up Food Bucks, to collecting donations at checkout during the KGW Great Food Drive. Safeway Albertsons employees also volunteer at Oregon Food Bank and with many of our partners.

“The Safeway Albertsons Nourishing Neighbors program is all about making a real difference right here in the communities we serve by providing essential resources and support to those in need," said Jill McGinnis, Director of Communications, Public Affairs & Government Relations, Safeway Albertsons Portland Division.

You can join Safeway Albertsons in the effort to end hunger and its root causes this month through the Bag Summer Hunger campaign. Between June 4 and July 1, you can purchase a virtual bag of food that will be donated to Oregon Food Bank. Each bag turns into pallets of essentials — like beans, soup, corn and pasta! Stop by your local Safeway or Albertsons store to donate!

We are deeply grateful for Safeway Albertsons’ enduring commitment to ending hunger. Their commitment exemplifies what it means to be a Community Cultivator — helping to end hunger and its root causes.
