Oregon Food Bank Statement in Solidarity with A Day Without an Immigrant

Oregon Food Bank supports A Day Without an Immigrant because hunger is a policy choice. And it deepens when families are denied the stability to build secure lives. Oregon depends on immigrant communities for the food that nourishes our families and supports our daily lives, and when these families are pushed out of work and public life the risk of hunger grows for all of us.

Immigrant families stay home because they do not feel safe going out. The impact is immediate. Paychecks disappear. Children miss school. Food budgets shrink. Local businesses lose workers and customers. Entire communities lose the stability that allows people to meet their basic needs.

This is what happens when policy choices push community members into isolation and crisis. These choices deepen hunger. They deepen poverty. They weaken the very systems that keep Oregon moving. A Day Without an Immigrant is a reminder and a warning, showing us the cost of letting harmful policies continue and the power of communities who refuse to disappear.

Oregon Food Bank’s Commitment and Action

Oregon Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger and its root causes, and immigrant justice is central to that work. Oregon Food Bank is dedicating 24 hours of communication to A Day Without an Immigrant as part of our advocacy to end hunger at its roots. For one full day our channels will focus entirely on how immigrant communities shape our state and why their safety and stability are essential to ending hunger.

We call on partners and community members to support Oregon for All so organizations have the resources they need to care for families now and in the future. Organizations can join the Oregon for All Coalition and individuals can donate to Oregon for All to strengthen this work. Oregon Food Bank is committed to a future where every family has the safety, dignity and stability needed to thrive and we invite our community to join us in making that future real.
