Rethink Hunger: Why SNAP Matters in Oregon

Since recording this message, two courts have ruled that the administration must release SNAP Funds. The federal administration has decided to release partial funds. Hunger in Oregon remains an urgent crisis.

This weekend, 750,000+ people across Oregon lost the SNAP benefits they rely on to buy food. The decision by leaders and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to withhold benefits will deepen hunger in every corner of our state. In this video message, Oregon Food Bank President Andrea Williams speaks directly to our community about what this moment means. Hunger in Oregon was not caused by disaster or scarcity. It was created by policy choices that determine who should eat and who should not.

At Oregon Food Bank, we are doing everything we can to move food where it’s needed, but no food bank can replace SNAP. For every meal we provide SNAP provides nine. That’s why we are asking for your help.
