May 2026 Community Cultivators: People's Food Co-op

Oregon Food Bank is proud to recognize People’s Food Co-op as our May 2026 Community Cultivator.

People’s Food Co-op is a consumer-owned cooperative grocery store based in Portland, Oregon. The store is driven by care for communities, food, land and the workplace, and this care is a key part of their engagement with Oregon Food Bank. They also participate in the Double-Up Food Bucks program, matching funds from shoppers who use SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) at the register.

As a community space dedicated to social justice, People’s Food Co-op is a strong supporter of Oregon Food Bank and our mission.

“Transformative was the word that kept coming to mind,” said Jenn Kliese, People’s Marketing and Design Manager. “We have positively impacted so many people’s lives. Each time I educate someone about the [Double Up Food Bucks] program at the register, everyone else in line hears it too.”

In addition to Double-Up Food Bucks, People’s Food Co-op has supported Oregon Food Bank through food donations, fundraising and advocacy. They have supported Food for All Oregonians and stood as our corporate sponsor for Willamette Week’s Give!Guide in 2025.

The passion and dedication of the People’s Food Co-op community makes their support of Oregon Food Bank so much more impactful. Their work goes beyond fundraising and signing petitions to include education and community building, helping develop a strong coalition against hunger. “All our shoppers know and are more informed about the state of hunger,” said Kliese. “And I think it shows in their commitment to giving during our fund drives. Hunger is a community, society-wide problem and our work with OFB is helping all our shoppers understand that.”
